Editorial Reviews

Product Description: Anybody who wanted to duke it out with the Big Three in the 1960s had to build credible muscle cars. American Motors did just that with models like the SC Rambler and the incredibly fast AMX. Some argue, however, that AMC's insistence on pouring resources into the muscle wars ultimately led to its downfall. Illustrated throughout with modern and archival photography, concept drawings, and cutaway illustrations, this color history's primary focus is the aforementioned AMX and the Javelin upon which it was based. Special models like the Mark Donohue Signature Edition Javelin, along with the less well-received Marlin, Rebel, SST, Hornet 360, Gremlin X, and others are also covered.

Great book about a mostly forgotten car company.
Their cars were ahead of their time!
The best book on AMC motorcars

Well, there are not so many books on AMC motorcars (there are only photo albums). But don't be disappointed! You've just found the best one. The book has it all. It is so fascinating to read, you won't put it down till you read its last page (the previous reviewer is right). It is full of great pictures, both full-color and b/w. I especially enjoyed the photos from the vintage ads and brochures. And it is reasonably priced! In fact, this book represents an amazing series of books titled "Muscle Car Color History". If you like supercars as a breed (not AMC muscle cars alone), just enter this title into the search window... and start saving your money. You won't be able to resist these books!
Outstanding History

Larry Mitchell, perhaps the most knowledgeable AMC espert alive today, has issued a complete book on the company's muscle cars. It includes great history (I literally couldn't put it down till I had read all chapters), representative color photos, and many surprising facts, even for this AMC enthusiast.

AMC Muscle Cars shows the world what this little company did despite huge economic disadvantages. Go get this book now!

I am a new AMC convert and I love this book! I have a hard time keeping my hands off of it. I learned a lot by reading it and I liked all of the great pictures too. My only grip is that I wished it would have covered the larger AMCs a bit more. A V.I.N. decoder and total production numbers would certainly be a big plus. Overall, a definate must read for any AMC freak!
Fills quite a void

This book was needed years ago. Now we have it. It is chock full of good stuff about AMC's cars, which were the also-rans of the American automotive industry. However, AMC did mighty well, thank you, and the cars in the book reflect that. The biggest gripe about the book are the photographs. Many are rather poor in quality- it almost seems the author took them himself instead of relying on a professional. Still, I think this is a book that will complement any collection.
